| Situation/ Background |
The Forest Plan does not include the term ‘invasive species’ per se, thus the concern the Plan may not adequately address them. Invasive species can include plants, animals, and fish species. |
| Discussion | Even though the use of the term invasive species is not used, it is clear the intent of the Forest Plan is to manage for native and desired non-native species. This can be seen in the overall Goals of the Forest Plan, in the Biodiversity portions of the Plan, and in the Forest Health sections of the Plan. If a situation is identified in which invasive species is a problem, use the adaptive management approach embraced by the Plan to address such. If a project action results from this effort, the appropriate NEPA decision can include an amendment to the Plan to specifically address invasive species. Include documentation in other NEPA analyses that effects of invasive species have been considered, as applicable. |
| Strategy | Address specific situations if they occur using the adaptive management provisions of the Plan. Adjust the Plan in LUDs where treatment of invasive species might be inconsistent with the goals and objectives of the LUD, as currently written. Working with the Regional Office, develop a strategy to address invasive fish, wildlife, and plant species. |
